+

- Council has been struggling with this growing concern.
* 11 March, Friday 8.30am-5pm approx, Local Government Commission Hearing

Sydenham, Waltham, Philipstown, Richmond and St Albans, to damage
communities and community boards, are all unwarranted, unreasonable and
retrograde governance.

Updates
* Cashmere Road congestion - a joint meeting of Westmorland, Cracroft and
Cashmere residents' associations has requested a joint Riccarton-Wigram
and Spreydon-Heathcote community board seminar, for representatives to
hear all council plans for Cashmere Road improvement, that should take
place soon. We will then be able to report back to residents on the works
timetable ahead. The Westmorland, Cracroft and Cashmere Accord
prioritises: Worsley's Road traffic lights with cycle and turning lanes
etc; a Hackthorne Road roundabout; a Penruddock Rise roundabout; and Dyers
Pass Road traffic lights, in that order. Please let CRA know your thoughts
on this proposed sequence of improvements. Strong unanimity has been
discovered for hillside and valley residents on this priority concern,
through their associations, supporting the new local road accord.
* Hot-water cylinder problems - Thanks everyone for all the responses to
our question, which have now been collated into a new website where all
available information, including that from council, can be read:
https://chchwater.wordpress.com - On the face of it there seems to be
earthing difficulty on our well-drained slopes, where old metal pipes have
been removed from roads and new reservoir concrete may be leaching trace
conductive chemicals into our water, causing some domestic cylinder
elements to blow quite frequently. More feedback from residents anywhere
in Christchurch, or from more engineers, is very welcome.
* Cashmere swans - our highest-profile residents, the two white swans
Samantha and Samuel, were happily returned to Swan Lake Gardens on Ernle
Terrace this week -
http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/76533210/critically-shot-swans-sam-and-samantha-come-home
- Much concern was expressed after the night-time attack upon them:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/75675070/armed-intruder-shoots-two-swans-in-christchurch
- Owner Duncan Laing and locals are very pleased by the swans' full
recovery. A reward is being gathered to try to catch the offender, so if
you want to contribute please contact the Christchurch Police or Duncan:
<email obscured> - Thank you.
