or Barclays where I have accounts. My free-to-run Barclays Charity
account doesn't offer online services but I mostly need to just pay in
cheques or order a new cheque book or paying-in stationery.
Santander offers a machine-reading option on both its ATMs for paying in
handwritten cheques, it does work, but quite often it can't read the
handwriting and gives up so it still has to be paid over the counter.
It's also very slow work if you have multiple cheques to process.
Many years ago we had an account with a bank where you had to send
cheques in by post - so perhaps that's the future for this decreasing
requirement.
Santander is about to close for extensive refurbishment apparently.
