popular park by up to thirty vehicles. The park includes well used football
pitches due to be in use for matches this weekend. Cllr Mark Lygo and myself
visited yesterday evening and spoke to one of the travellers who told us they
were planning to leave either today or Saturday. In the meantime police and
city officers have visited and will be taking action this afternoon. I have
alerted local schools whose pupils use the park after school and will be
visiting again this afternoon. There are potential risks and dangers with
vehicles movement where you have children playing.
This is becoming a serious issue in the city and would indicate there are
insufficient designated sites for traveller and it needs addressing.
Authorities have to follow the correct procedure to move travellers on and in
the meantime residents and users get very frustrated, the costs associated with
this are significant for the authorities and occupy a lot of time.
The city council will be assessing how we prevent this happening again at this
location.
