*Seed Saving: Understanding, Collecting, Cleaning, & Storing Seeds*
Saturday, October 7, 9 a.m. - noon
Jim Calkins, landscape and production horticulturist, Research Information
Director at the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association
’Tis the season... for seed collecting. By this time of year most plants
are producing seeds, and whether you wish to harvest a bit of natural
bounty or get ready for next year’s garden, it’s important to get the
details right! Using the Arboretum’s late-summer grounds and gardens, Jim
Calkins will show you what seeds are worth collecting and demonstrate
proper techniques to ensure that you have healthy, vital seeds that will
sprout when you plant them next spring. Weather permitting, this is an
exclusive opportunity to collect and bring home seeds from annuals,
herbaceous perennials, and woody species at the Arboretum! Dress for the
weather.
