Location: ESNS 1700 2nd St NE, Minneapolis
Reports to: Youth Program Manager
Status: 15-20 hours per week, Part-Time, Non-Exempt,
Mon-Thurs. 2:00-6:30
Program 3:45 p.m.-5:45 p.m. Tues/Wednesday, Occasional field trips/events in
evenings.
Broad Scope and Function of Job:
Assists in creation and facilitation of ESNS's OST youth program Youth Out
Loud- a program for teens to reflect and engage around racial equity issues in
Minneapolis. Builds developmental assets of youth by carrying out the goals of
East Side's Youth Department: provide students with a safe environment where
creative educational activities use their time constructively, students receive
support from staff and volunteers trained to consistently reinforce their
developmental needs, students develop knowledge, respect, and understanding of
people of diverse ethnicities and ages, and students develop increased 21st
Century skills. Must be able to relate with and provide outreach to all
segments of a multi-cultural community including urban youth.
Major Job Responsibilities:
Is responsible for, but not limited to the following functions:
Program Implementation:
* Assists Youth Program Manager in the planning, facilitation, and
evaluation of activities for teens that increase their racial literacy, help
them identify local issues to organize around (for example: police brutality,
school policy, etc.) and engage them in a final project. Activities may focus
on skill development in problem-solving, leadership, communication and
community engagement as they relate to the topics of racial equity and
identity. Development of self-esteem and positive adult and peer relationships
are also targeted outcome areas.
* Conducts regular student outreach during school hours.
Family And Community:
* Conducts outreach in the community to link youth and families with
available community/agency resources.
* Operates youth programs within the context of families and community.
Facilitates parental involvement through direct communication, volunteer
participation, family/parent events, and evaluative input.
Supervision:
* Assists in the supervision and development of volunteers and youth
aides.
* Actively participates in orientation and training to gain the
necessary understanding to carry out Youth Department and program goals.
Administrative Duties:
* Prepares and maintains records of work with individuals and groups.
Documents progress of program participants including progress on academic and
social goals.
Other:
* Other responsibilities as assigned by the ESNS Youth Program Manager.
