the London Borough of Newham to replace its ageing VCR recording system and to
provide a platform for future migration to a total IP-CCTV solution'
We read on 'Like many other inner city areas Newham Council face a complex
security environment, including anti-social behaviour, drugs, criminal activity
and traffic issues. High-quality CCTV images are fundamental for both the
Council and the police to manage this environment and to ensure public safety'.
All very noble cause one would say...BUT...
Apparently there are 200 of this new CCTV camera systems going up in North
Woolwich alone (presumably to protect the Police bunker there ?), with another
600 going up else where. We are told that this will happen as 'budgets become
available'. But which 'budgets' exactly, how much is being paid and to whom,
and who exactly is paying for this CCTV Utopia... surely not us long suffering
residents of Newham again ? Our pockets are still emptied from sending Wales
and Co on the Beijing Jollie !
