Dear Neighbors,
The 2019-2020 legislative session is constitutionally mandated to adjourn by
May 18. Governor Walz acknowledged that every budget decision cannot
responsibly be made in the next 10 days, and that we should expect to return
for a special session to address ongoing issues. We must find bipartisan
agreement on specific issues by Saturday, May 9, and larger bills, such as
bonding and taxes will be negotiated in the coming days with a goal of passing
larger bills before May 18.
With less than two weeks left of session and no bonding hearings scheduled in
the Senate, our DFL caucus expressed urgency in getting a bonding bill passed.
We need a robust bonding bill, especially this year. We have a record number of
public projects requests from every corner in the State. Our DFL Caucus
introduced a bill to fund many of these priority projects, and create thousands
of local jobs. The investments proposed in our bill are sorely needed to fix
crumbling public infrastructure and to provide an economic stimulus during and
beyond this public health crisis.
Thank you for continuing to reach out to my office with your concerns during
these trying times. Your patience in responding to your inquiries is greatly
appreciated during a high-volume period of constituent needs. We will continue
to work as efficiently as possible to address the many issues and cases that
you have brought to our attention.
Patricia
