upcoming trial. The person on trial is David Campbell, a Native American
police officer who has been molesting under-age girls for years in his
former beat, Little Earth. When finally the city decided to do something
about him, it was to reassign him to another area of Minneapolis. Those who
have been following this story know that Campbell was recently apprehended
at a hotel in Bloomington with his son's girlfriend.
Why was this man not brought to justice by the Minneapolis Police
Department? What did other responsible authorities know and for how long
preceding his arrest? Why has he been allowed back for off-duty work in
Little Earth? His appearance in court comes after something like twenty
years from the start of his well known criminal activities!
When elected and appointed leaders fail in their duties, situations like
this are inevitable. The fallout from city officials not handling
corruption by fellow officials is a lot of money spent on issues that
should have been handled pro-actively. Worse, their inaction brings about
incalculable heartache for the community and inherited trauma for future
generations.
David Campbell's trial starts tomorrow at 8:30 am at the Hennepin County
Government Center.
