responders) can go down a one way street the wrong way. But does that include
city trucks not answering an emergency or tow trucks just going to a car yard?
I live on a narrow side street between two one ways (one North, one South).
There is used car dealer across the block. Some thirty years ago this block was
made into a one way because cars which were in a hurry would race down this
block to avoid waiting for the light at Portland. This endangered the kids on
the block who were often short enough to slide between two parked cars running
after a ball or whatever.
This change honked off the used car dealer across the street, so he ignores it
several times a day. Those kids (cited) grew up and moved away, but we have a
new batch of l'il punkins able to slide between parked cars unseen. There is
nothing worse than seeing a kid get hit by a car--nothing. And, cars still go
South on this block to avoid the light, though much less frequently.
I have not congered a plausible excuse for the city trucks. My conclusion is
that they are lazy buggers with an undeserved sense of entitlement.
My question: Is there an ordinance that allows city trucks to ignore the one
way signs? I know there is no excuse for the tow trucks, but the city cannot
afford an undercover operation for the schmoe across the block.
