Thanks for this, David, but I've never had a problem e-mailing posts before.
Also I notice that the contents of my re-posting are mostly missing where they
appear on the website. Maybe liftoff have something to say about that...
Cheers,
David Braund

Subject: Delays in forum postings
Hi David,
After I replied to you something further came to light about your posting
not being delivered. Your email "I also posted on this topic" had an address
list consisting of Brighton & Hove Issues Forum and myself. The copy destined
for my email arrived I think a few seconds after you sent it. The copy destined
for the forum took a circuitous route via the Central European Time Zone and
the New Zealand Time Zone incurring a 40-minute delay. Below I have pasted
email header data showing the route.
I am inclined to recommend wherever possible using the web interface for
direct posting, rather than using the email method, as you have done. The web
interface method tends to be immediate.
Happy posting!
- David

Hi David,
I'm not sure that I have understood what you are asking. On which forum
was your posting not delivered: the SCIP Discussion List, or Brighton & Hove
Issues? When posting to either forum I log in to it and use its web interface.
That seems to work quicker and with more certainty than sending an email to it.
Maybe you sent an email and it was delayed somewhere in the system, or the
destination address wasn't correct, or the sending address wasn't the one that
you registered.
Regards,
- David

I also posted on this topic to this forum a day earlier than you, but unlike
your posting mine does not appear to have been delivered. Why is this? I'm
not aware of any mechanism for one subscriber to prevent publication of a
post to a thread on this forum because they have "moved it" to another
forum.
Unless it is just that only I have not received a copy, an explanation is
awaited.

As I understand there is a first time e-mail to post delay of 30 minutes as
part of an anti-spam "grey list" feature.
I am not exactly sure why it is 30 minutes. It may be that with the recent
upgrade the greylisting to "white list" feature was reset. Once an e-mail
address successfully posts, the delay should be removed.
Let us know if your continued e-mail to group posts are delayed in a similar
fashion:
<email obscured>

Hi all:
It isn't actually 30 minutes -- it's actually more like 5 minutes,
*HOWEVER* some email servers may backoff to 30 minutes when they receive
the initial refusal.
Unfortunately, like many email providers we have to deal with torrents
of spam, and grey-listing is the most effective measure that we have. I
can try experimenting with the threshold again, but it's a difficult to
get right for everyone, while still effectively rejecting spam.
