Reports to: Assistant Director of OST Programs
Status: Average of 40 hours/week, Full-Time,
non-exempt; generally 9:30 am-6:00 pm, occasional evenings and weekends
Broad Scope and Function of Job:
The Youth Program Manager at Heritage Academy is responsible for the overall
administration of the Heritage Academy Out-of-School Time program serving
approximately 60 high priority youth grades 6-12. Directly supervises a staff
team including a lead youth worker, licensed teachers, volunteers and interns
and works alongside Heritage staff and administration. Collaborates with
Minneapolis Public Schools Extended Learning programs to provide academic
services to youth. Provides resources, support and community engagement
opportunities for participants and their families. Coordinates and oversees
program operations to ensure individual academic and emotional growth and
support developmental assets of youth through research-based programming, using
a holistic approach that is trauma-informed and strengths-based. Supports
students and staff by actively participating in family engagement events and
helping to mobilize applicable resources to students in need.
Heritage Academy is a Minneapolis Public School enrolling around 200 students.
The vast majority of Heritage students are of East African decent and have
immigrated or are the children of immigrants to America. Heritage strives to
push students academically while also structuring the day with respect to
Muslim culture and religion, creating a space of acceptance, companionship and
success.
Major Job Responsibilities:
Is responsible for, but not limited to the following functions:
Program Development:
* Provides day-to-day supervision of program operations of the
Out-of-School Time program, parent events, and a full-day summer program
designed to increase academic success, build character and leadership, increase
21st Century skills and build positive relationships with students.
* Manages and coordinates staffing, and supports staff in the delivery of
direct services to youth and families and provide back up as necessary.
* Responsible for tracking participation, collecting evaluative data, and
assisting Assistant Director of OST in program proposals and reports.
* Offers consistent on-going supportive relationships to students and their
families.
* Creates program structure and offerings for students in collaboration
with school day and after school staff and actively works with school staff and
principal to assess student needs and appropriate interventions.
Parents and Community:
* Develops and implements procedures and activities to increase parent
involvement in the student's education, including family nights and program
volunteer opportunities.
* Initiates and supports relationships with community-based partner
organizations to expand after-school offerings at program site.
* Forms and maintains collaborations with school staff and other youth
serving agencies in the community.
Staff Supervision:
* Oversees hiring, development, and supervision for program staff, interns,
and volunteers to ensure that all youth work is in accordance with ESNS agency,
MPS, departmental policies, procedures, and guiding principles.
* Assists in training of interns, volunteers and youth aides to ensure that
each work in accordance with established professional conduct and procedures,
demonstrate an ability to work age-appropriately with students, and promote the
goals of ESNS Youth Programs.
* Facilitates regular site staff meetings and provides one-on-one
supervision and coaching.
* Submits bi-weekly payroll sheets to MPS and acts as a liaison between MPS
and after school employees.
Administrative Duties:
* Prepares and maintains accurate records that ensure the privacy and
confidentiality of program participants and their families.
* Responsible for completing quarterly reports and participate in
Continuous Improvement Process.
* Meets with collaborative community groups and East Side Youth Team to
report progress, discuss issues and give/receive support.
* Attends supervisory meetings and other school meetings as assigned by
school administration team.
Professional Development:
* Participates in workshops, classes, and self-directed study to
further develop professional skills and competencies commensurate with assigned
job responsibilities.
Other:
* Other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director of OST.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Education:
* Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Education, or related Social
Science; Or equivalent education and experience.
Experience:
* Two years of experience working with diverse, at-risk youth, parents,
and school personnel.
* Two years of experience working with groups, counseling, and program
management in a community setting.
* Two years of supervision experience in the field of youth work.
* Experience motivating youth to improve academic success and involving
parents in their child's education.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently in an off-site setting,
manage time effectively, multi-task, manage multiple programs concurrently, and
utilize supervision and support as necessary.
Other Qualifications:
* Somali language skills highly preferred.
* Computer competencies, including MSOffice, databases, creating
professional documents.
* Ability to work across ethnic/racial/economic lines for effective
communication and trust building.
* Ability to self-start and effectively problem solve.
* Valid Minnesota driver's license, safe driving record and reliable
transportation preferred.
Compensation: $33,280-$39,520 annually depending on qualifications. Generous
