This forum has been keeping an eye on pubs in Headington and Marston that are selling up, so I thought I should add that a "For Sale" board appeared today outside the Somerset pub on the Marston Road. I have looked at its website http://www.thesomersetoxford.co.uk/ but there are no clues there. Is the smoking ban encouraging people to give up pubs rather than cigarettes?
As Stephanie mentioned on the Black Boy thread, it is rumoured that the
Somerset will, in large part, become a Chinese restaurant. It all sounds a bit
odd to me - but this kind of thing can work, such as the Thai White Horse at
Forest Hill. It would certainly be good to know more.
The letter in the paper suggests the big bar would become the restaurant, but I
would thought the small bar would have been better for that. Whichever way, it
is important the garden is retained, especially as it has Aunt Sally.
