Status: Full Time, Exempt, Monday-Friday, daytime and
after-school hours, occasional night/weekend hours
Broad Scope and Function of Job:
The Youth Out Loud Program Manager is responsible for the overall
administration of the Youth Out Loud program serving 20-30 youth and young
adults annually. Youth Out Loud (YOL) is a leadership development tool
developed by East Side's Youth Out of School Time (OST) Programs to create
lasting connections between young people and racial justice movements. It
develops youth literacy around systemic injustice and methods of change-making;
reinforces personal agency and healing practices; amplifies historically
marginalized youth voice; and equips youth to navigate power in their
community.
Major Job Responsibilities:
Is responsible for, but not limited to the following functions:
Program Development (50%):
* Provides day-to-day supervision and facilitation of the Youth Out Loud
program designed to increase civic engagement, build character and leadership,
increase 21st Century skills and build positive relationships with youth and
young adults.
* Develops and implements a three-tiered curriculum including: 1) Racial
and Social Justice Literacy; 2) Networking with Community Organizers; and 3)
Youth-Led Civic Engagement Project.
* Offers consistent on-going supportive relationships to young people and
their families.
* Coordinates with partners as guest facilitators and internship host
sites.
Family and Community Engagement (20%):
* Support evaluation and feedback with parents and caregivers to identify
their needs and interests.
* Work with the Youth Department Director to expand the reach of the Youth
Out Loud Program and parent organizing at East Side to support the development
of community leaders.
* Builds connections with other organizations doing organizing work in the
Twin Cities with young people in line with East Side's mission, vision and
values.
Professional Development (10%):
* Supports Youth Department Director to coordinate trainings for the
Youth Department related to social justice, racial equity, gender awareness,
advocacy and community engagement.
* Participates in workshops, classes, and self-directed study to
further develop professional skills and competencies commensurate with assigned
job responsibilities.
Staff Supervision (10%):
* Leads recruitment, hiring and development for Youth Out Loud program
staff, interns, and volunteers to ensure that all youth work is in accordance
with ESNS agency, MPS, departmental policies, procedures, and guiding
principles.
* Facilitates regular staff meetings for YOL Lead Youth Worker, volunteers
and interns.
* Approves bi-weekly payroll sheets and completes performance evaluations
for YOL program staff.
Administrative Duties (10%):
* Prepares and maintains accurate records that ensure the privacy and
confidentiality of program participants and their families.
* Responsible for tracking participation, collecting evaluative data, and
assisting Youth Department Director in program proposals and reports using
Client Track and other tools.
* Works within the youth department team to define program goals that
conform to the program contract and reports progress to Youth Department
Director and program funders.
Other:
* Other responsibilities as assigned by the Youth Department Director.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Education:
* Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Education, or related Social
Science field or equal professional experience.
Experience:
* Two years of experience working with diverse, at-risk youth, parents,
and school personnel.
* Two years of experience working with youth organizing, civic
engagement or advocacy work with young people or parents.
* Two years of supervision experience in the field of youth work.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time effectively,
multi-task, manage multiple programs concurrently, and utilize supervision and
support as necessary.
Other Qualifications:
* People of Color strongly encouraged to apply.
* Bi-lingual in Spanish or Somali preferred.
* Computer competencies, including MSOffice, databases, creating
professional documents.
* Ability to work across ethnic/racial/economic lines for effective
communication and trust building.
* Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
* Ability and willingness to work variable hours.
* Valid Minnesota driver's license, safe driving record and reliable
transportation required.
Compensation: $35,360-$43,680 annually, depending upon qualifications. Generous
benefits including Health, Dental, Life, STD & LTD, 403(b) and PTO.
