Hi all,
It's gone a bit quiet here so I thought I'd ask what you all thought of
the Mela that took place in Cowley Marsh Park on Sunday. We rather
enjoyed it and thought it was well laid out with lots of good things.
Well done to Nisha Prakash in the City Council for organising it again!

PS - Shameless plug: If you want a brain-stretch on a Sunday evening
then come along at 8.30pm to the Marsh Harrier where my partner and I
are running the pub quiz this week.

Is the Mela mainly a Pakistani or an Indian event? or both? Shame I missed it
but will go next year, perhaps it needs to be advertised more.A friend who has
just moved to Swindon claim they get 20,000 at Swindon Mela whilst Oxford with
possibly a bigger South Asian population only got 5,000.

I cannot comment on this year's Mela as I couldn't stay but I've been going to
the Croydon Mela for several years now and one of the main attractions has been
a collection of amateur groups from schools and colleges around the borough who
mime and dance wearing traditional costume which of course always pulls in
proud parents and friends. It also does not cost much as there are no
professional fees to be paid as there would be for a main-line act.

Didnt go to the Mela as it clashed with the Horspath Road street fiesta, which
was great fun anyway.
So that we dont clash again in 2009 does any one have the date for the 2009
Mela.
Would be much appreciated.

Horspath Street Fiesta was very enjoyable and helped me to better my
public Poetry recitals. My latest Poem(Power of the Planet)has been
accepted for inclusion in Anthology. Olive
