Hi,
A bit of a change from residents' parking......
As you know, we have 12K to distribute to useful things within Southville and
Bedminster wards. The closing date for applications is the end of July.
The next stage will be to consider the applications and make a recommendation
to the 4 councillors who are responsible for the final allocation. We intend
to do this in August. Ideally we will complete the process early enough to
announce results in the September Pigeon. This probably means completing the
process by, say, August 8. Otherwise, it's the October Pigeon.
I am trying to set up an assessment group. It would be good to have at least
6 people (I already have 2, plus me as clerk) that could meet to look through
the applications. I don't know, at this stage, if we will get 3 or 30
applications, but I guess that the group will need to meet for two or three
hours maximum.
Please contact me if you would like to be part of the group or can persuade
someone else to do this little chore.
It would probably be best if panel members were not too obviously connected
with applications from particular groups!
Cheers, Ben.

BETTER BEDMINSTER COMMUNITY CHEST
There's still a bit left!!
In the first round the Bemmy Partnership has awarded 9625 to projects in
Southville and Bedminster wards. But, there is still 2675 left in the kitty.
We have decided to reopen the bidding process. The procedure will be as
before, except that the new closing date is October 31.
If your group (or a group that you know) would like an application pack, get
back to me on <email obscured>
Next financial year
We will be running the Better Bedminster Community Chest next year, too. We'd
be interested in any comments about changes that might be made to improve the
process, or even to change it completely.
We understand that the council will be giving 20,000 to the Community Chest
next year, ie doubling their contribution. We also want to increase the
contribution from businesses and individuals.
Business and Individual Contributions
We know that many businesses and individuals contribute to local projects,
either as a one off or more consistently. If they contribute via the
Community Chest, donors receive additional publicity. Donations can either be
for specified projects or into the general pot. This year, we were able to
add 2300 to the 10K from BCC. We'd like to substantially increase that for
2009 to 2010.
If you know firms and folk who might like to contribute please ask them to
contact me on <email obscured>
Oh, and there's another 500
The Bemmy Partnership also has 500 to pay someone to canvass businesses asking
for contributions to the Community Chest. If you might be interested in this,
contact me for a chat before the end of September.
Please pass this message on, if you can.
Cheers, Ben.
