*- Thurs, Oct 9, 6:00 p.m. SENA Graffiti Task Force "Hennepin Overland
Train Museum" Mural Project - TENTATIVE DATE*. This mural project is
actually a series of 10-12 'mini-murals' painted by volunteers (you!), which
will be attached to the museum walls two weeks after this initial meeting.
We will be handing out 10-12 4'x4' primed plywood boards and paint. Half
will have pre-sketched logos of retired train lines that used to serve
Minneapolis and will need to be painted 'color-by-number'-style. The other
half will be blank, and require you to design a train themed mural/painting.
Volunteers will be given just over two weeks to complete the boards. In the
intervening two weeks, the museum walls will be given an entirely new paint
job. Are you interested in painting one of these murals and having your art
hang on 38th street? If so, please reply to <email obscured> as
we'd like to get an idea about how many people would like to be a part of
this fun project. Any change of meeting date will appear in next week's
Weekly Email.

- Do you need leaves raked? Help with landscaping or gardening? Garage
cleaned or painted? Call *Sanford** Job Corps - a unique fundraising
opportunity for students from Sanford Middle School* students gain
valuable work experience and skills while providing a service to the
community. Students are busy raising money for the 8th Grade Trip to Europe,
7th Grade Trip to Wolf Ridge Environmental Center, and many more school
related trips, fees, and activities. For their work around your house or
business you give them $5 an hour towards their educational goals. Low
income or senior citizen? We have a matching grant from Longfellow Business
Association and the Longfellow Community Council so you will only have to
give $2.50 an hour. Sanford is working with Longfellow United for Youth and
Family, local businesses, and homeowners to provide students an opportunity
to meet their educational goals while gaining valuable work experience. Please
contact Nick Cross, Job Corps Coordinator at 612-668-4900 for more
information - no job is too big or small, so give us a call.
- *Did you use a contractor to help with home improvements in the last
couple of years?* If you did, SENA could use your help. For several years
we have maintained a Contractor Referral Book in the SENA office. We have
asked neighborhood residents and businesses to fill out a short referral
sheet, and we've collected those in the book that's available for residents
to review if they're looking for someone to do work on their home. The book
is getting woefully out of date and we need to add more current information.
The form is now available on the SENA website:
www.standish-ericsson.orgYou'll see the link in the first item on the
bulletin board.
It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to fill it out - then just e-mail
it to <email obscured> and we'll add it to the book. Thanks for
your help!
