Sunday October 14th from 2-5
Concerned about climate change and want more information? Join MN350, a
climate change justice organization, in this open discussion about what’s
going to our planet and what it means. There will be live music by Ms Myra

about MN350's current campaigns to keep our environment and climate safe as

*Together Towards a Sustainable Future: The Community Food and Water Bill*
Tuesday October 2nd from 7-8:30
No matter what passport we carry or heritage we claim, we all depend on
food and water. Yet, urban and rural communities alike are tethered to
publicly funded industrial food economy that destroys the ecosystems that
sustain life. We need an economic solution to this economic problem-now.
The Community Food & Water and Farm Bill provides a clear analysis of the
current food economy and maps a pathway for shaping a regenerative food
system designed to sustain life now and for future generations.$10

Instructor Information: Marita Bujold is an artist, community activist and
organizer who creates environments for communities to pursue common purpose
together. She believes that we are at a crossroads. Marita examined the
dynamics of the global food economy and the implications for water, food
and the future of life on Earth as part of her MA in Leadership.
*Cold Process Soap Making Class with Longfellow Soap*
Thursday October 4th from 5-7:30
Learn to make all natural soap with John Hanson, owner/maker of the
Longfellow Soap Company. In this class you will learn how to make the 5,000
year old technique of making lye-based soap. Each student will receive a
manual with equipment list, ingredients and where to buy locally, John’s
"secret recipe", instructions for making soap, and websites for purchasing
essential oils. Each student will also take home five bars of soap the
night of the class! Space is limited! Class is $20 but scholarships are

Instructor Info: John Hanson is the owner of The Longfellow Soap Company
and a a longtime resident of Longfellow neighborhood. He began making soap
after taking a class that he purchased from a fundraising event for the
Friends Quaker School in St. Paul. At first he gave all his soap away to
family and friends until they started asking to buy it! Before making soap,
John worked years in retail and another 14 in woodworking and carpentry.
*Expanding your Compost: Tea and Extract Production *
Saturday October 13th from 2-4pm
Never have enough compost? This class will teach you how to make a small
amount of good compost go a lot further. Attendees will take home a small
bag of high quality compost to make their own extract! This class is $15
but scholarships are available!
Teacher Bio: Kassie Brown is the founder of Renaissance Soil, a Saint
Paul-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting soil regeneration through
education, outreach, and action opportunities. Renaissance Soil aims to
advance soil regeneration as a key tool in our work to address climate
change, environmental pollution, biodiversity loss, and diet-related
disease.
*MN Grown Color: An Introduction to Natural Dyes*
Sunday October 27th from 12-2
Join us as we explore the art of growing, harvesting, and dyeing with
plants grown here in Minnesota. You'll learn how to process plants and
flowers from the forest, prairies, and your own gardens to create beautiful
hues. By the end of class you'll have learned the basic techniques of
making dye from a couple of plants available in Minnesota this fall.
Participants will need to bring two to three different 100% natural fibers
to dye (linen, silk, wool, cotton), that weigh no more than 8 oz all
together. Fibers can be purchased at a fabric or craft store. Suggested

Instructor Information: Libby London has a background in cold climate
permaculture farming, cooperative sustainable farming, and natural dyeing.
She currently runs a natural dye business called Northern Dyer where she
grows and forages for natural dye plants, teaches workshops, researches dye
plants for our region in Minnesota, and runs a custom dye lab.
