HEADS UP!
I was disappointed and surprised to learn that at this Wednesday's Park
Board meeting, there will be a first reading of an ordinance that will meet
state statutes giving the Park Board the legal authority TO CHANGE THE
NAMES OF 42 PARKWAYS AND PARK ROADS. The committee vote will take only six
commissioners to move this forward. No where in the proposed ordinance
does it mention a public process for changing the names. So if you live on
East Calhoun Parkway, you might soon find you have to change your address
to a name you have had no opportunity to weigh in on.
For those who could be directly impacted by this proposed ordinance, a
change of address can be a complicated and difficult process. Those living
on parkways with new
names will have to change their addresses on their drivers' licenses, their
passports, their checking accounts, their charge accounts, etc.
So, if you don't support this statute and/or the expedited and undemocratic
process promoting it, contact members of the Park Board as well as your
city council member.
