project seems to have picked up traction. The shelter will house up to 100
individuals in a wharehouse in the North Loop starting in March. The project
is managed by AViVO and council provided $2,000.000 of CARES funds in Oct 2020
to assit with funding.
Well intentioned, however I am worried about the potental of 3 distractor to
this project.
1. The "homes" appear to be ventalated with some sort of HVAC configuration.
The homes are for individuals, but there are common areas. What safe guards
and policies will be in place to prevent this shelter to be in incubater/
super spreader of Covid and other like ailments?
2. Other communities have tried the tiny home concept. But those
applications have been tiny homes in warmer climes, on a lot/ outdoor area.
Good for Mesa, but winter is a bit longer and more harsh here. The Minneapolis
solution is to put 100 people in boxes in a wharehouse. Out of site out of
mind. What's the long-term mental health impact of being shelved in a box, in a
storeroom, just like Amazon Wharehouse. AVIVO does provide and has mental
health services...just not sure if they are preparded for the long-term
unintendent affects of living in a box.
3. Council provide free COVID- CARES funds. Where is the funding coming
this year and the next.
