To learn more about pentacholorphenol, read this FAQ page from the
University of Minnesota website:
http://www.seagrant.umn.edu/water/report/chemicalsofconcern/pentachloropheno
l/toxfaqpentachlorophenol.pdf
Perhaps an expert speaker could be found via the UMN?
Also, I've noticed that my dog is very intrigued by the poles that (I
presume) have been treated by penta. She will often try to rub her face on
the poles, as if smelling something wonderful. Has anyone else had a dog
react the same way?

Subject: [Seward] Pentachlorphenol on utility poles--and local food - What a
pairing!
Both topics will be discussed at the Environment Committee, July 21,
Monday, 7:00 pm, SNG office
There's been a lot of concern about the penta treated poles turning up
throughout the neighborhood,
in alleys, along streets where neighboring households are planting
flowers, and across from the southeast
corner of Matthews Park. This is a hazardous chemical with
bioaccumulative and carcinogenic properties.
We are looking for an expert presenter, but have noone scheduled so far.
On the positive side, people in our neighborhood have access to organic
and locally grown food. To tell us
more about regional and state farmers specializing in organic and
specialty crops, food distribution networks,
and restaurants, both Metro and Outstate, that specialize in Minnesota
Grown, Margaret Schnieders, from
Renewing the Countryside (currently officed in the Ivy Building) will
present on this topic around 7:15.
Seward residents and others are invited to attend.
