Good Evening Everyone.
When I drive around town cleaning up litter on the streets or for any other
reason, I have noticed that the overwhelming majority of Election Signs are for
2021's Dr Megan Woods and all 2021 candidates running for their prospective
areas.
However this keen observation has a question begging to be asked.
Exactly how serious are 2021 about ever reaching there so called VISION????
The following is from section 13 of 2021's 'VISION' statement:
"Our focus is on waste reduction".
You have got to be kidding!!!!!!!!
There are thousands of corrugated plastic signs around Christchurch that are
most likely going straight to the landfill!!!
The only honourable thing 2021 candidates can do is pull your signs down as it
contradicts your ‘Vision’, which you all signed to support when you applied to
be members.
Do the right thing and pull them down, or the public will see that you can’t be
trusted in anything your so called VISION states!

New Brighton
Mayoralty Candidate
Ah, the delights of election korflutes.
Mine aren't up yet. I find putting signs up almost as joyful a task as cleaning
under the fridge. I do that just a little more often.
Must say though, to the best of my knowledge, none of my old signs have ever
gone to the dump - at least in one piece. They've been used as covering for
broken windows, car boot liners, make fantastic gliders, good toboggans, dodgy
boogie boards, forts (as long as you have sticky tape and one of those knives
you're not allowed on planes any more), umbrellas at my grandfather's graveside
(seriously), and when my cat brings me rats from the river, Barry Corbett's
sign from last time scares them witless. They're also the perfect size for 1000
piece jigsaw puzzles.
Hmmmm - I have a sudden craving for a free set of ginsu knives.
Wouldn't it be grand if candidates just 'were'... no sign just good old
speaking corners, and political meetings.
I mean, it's like saying How much does a vote cost?
I would love that at the end of this race to the mayoral chambers, if we
could tally the money spent divided by the vote count, and see who REALLY
wins.
Because you see, it's all psychological. The more you see something, the
more it stays in your neurons- that's the magic of advertising . I think
some people call it brain-washing.
Dont' worry Mark, I saw signs BEFORE the elections even STARTED, and on this
same forum I commented on what I called Visual Pollution.
Another way of recycling the signs Sue.. use them as dart boards..
This seems like as good a time as ever to jump into the forum and introduce
myself. My name is Marcus Puentener and I am standing for council and community
board in the Burwood/Pegasus Ward as an independent candidate. Just this
morning I was having a discussion on hoardings sprouting up all over the city.
I must say, it isn't only 2021 though. I agree with Mark Ross and Natalie in
that a person should not be elected on the size of their campaign budget or
public profile but what they have to offer the community they want to
represent. (I say the less other commitments, ie directorships, businesses to
run, the more time you can comitt to the community).
I don't have the money to waste on promotion. I am realistic about my chances
of being elected and my main motivation for standing is to question other
candidates and get some straight answers on their policies. Not that keeping
promises has ever mattered - this is one thing that must change.
So, here's my spiel
For too long, Christchurch residents have been victim to ineffective
representation. I would like to restore the public’s faith in the Council by
keeping other councilors honest. We all want A Better City, and for that we
need a Council that listens to community concerns and acts on them.
I believe in:
Sympathetic and sustainable development, protection of our parks and waterways,
better consultation, better vision and better representation.
Thanks for the chance to contribute Dan.

Keep going... ...
Now you have to nut out the how, where, etc. How are you planning on
protecting our parks and waterways. Hell, why don't you protect our air at
the same time?
What vision do you have? Is it a vision, or is it visionary?
We look forward to reading more on your website and seeing you debate in the
hot seat :)
