Fletcher held on June 28 at the NE Neighborhood Housing Services Center on the
Comp 2040 Plan. Fletcher had posted this meeting on his CM newsletter and sent
it out on the city email system. He also had city staff, Heather Worthington,
there for the meeting to answer questions on the comprehensive plan.
Jane said that she got permission from the facilities person to set up a table
to distribute literature and lawn signs in the Hallway.
Apparently Mr. Fletcher showed up and lost his temper in a highly visible
public setting, verbally bashing Jane for attending a âprivate meetingâ and
contending that she had no right to be there. He brought in the same facilities
person, who then did a 180° on his position. Then Fletcher apparently yelled at
Jane about her opposition to the plan.
Jane then stood outside the door and one person came out to ask for signs. She
left soon after that.
Mr. Fletcher needs to learn about what constitutes an open meeting. I guess he
doesnât want anyone there who doesnât agree with his point of view. So much for
community engagement.
On another note, folks have attended CM Jeremy Schroederâs meetings on the Comp
2040 Plan and if they are not from his ward, he says they should talk to their
own CM. Maybe he forgot he is Chair of Councilâs Zoning and Planning Committee
and on the Planning Commission, which will vote on the Comp Plan. He will be
making decisions for the whole city.
These two well-paid elected officials should take a page from CM Andrea Jenkins
who will talk to any citizen because she understands she makes decisions that
affect the whole city. Thatâs the kind of CM attitude I like to see.
MinneapolisforEveryone.org is a non-profit organization that opposes the
Minneapolis 2040 because it discriminates in housing and transportation against
families with children, the disabled, the elderly and people with low income.
The plan takes neighborhood planning away from neighborhoods and centralizes it
in City Hall and prompts more density than required by the Met Council, at the
expense of quality of life and the environment.
