This Sunday, Oct. 12, ISAIAH will be convening the Time to Believe event in
St. Paul's River Centre. It will begin at 3pm in Roy Wilkins auditorium and
runs until 5:30pm. The event is free.
ISAIAH is a coalition of over 90 churches in the Twin Cities metro area and
St. Cloud working for systemic change toward social justice. At Time to
Believe we will have 4,000 people together with a couple hundred public
officials to talk about transformation -- the transformation we need in our
society for racial and economic justice and the transformation we each need in
our own hearts to make that possible.
The first hour will be something of a revival -- a truth-telling about what is
happening in the world, personal testimonies and commitment to something new.
There will be stories about issues such as health & health care, immigration
and jobs & transportation. There will be celebration about progress we've
made and lamentation for those unable to attend.
This is about a new kind of relationship between public officials and
community members. It's about moving from transactional relationships to
transformational ones -- where we are co-creating a shared vision and working
together to make it real.
We have invited public officials and candidates from all levels of government
to be there with us. Senator Amy Klobuchar will speak as will Speaker
Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Senate Minority Leader David Senjem. Al
Franken will also make an appearance. Legislators from all over the Twin
Cities metro area will be there with us.
In the second hour (with some time for movement of people), we will have
regional breakouts where interaction with local candidates on local issues can
happen. The St. Paul breakout will be focused on Central Corridor,
specifically around jobs & contracts for underrepresented groups, keeping
families in their homes and constructing the missing stations at Hamline Ave.,
Victoria St. and Western Ave.
WHAT: ISAIAH's Time to Believe Public Gathering
WHERE: St. Paul's River Centre, Roy Wilkins Auditorium

Mr. Greene,
Haven't you heard? The transformation has happened! There is an illegitimate,
mixed breed, poor boy raised by his grandparent. This boy grew up in America,
got an Ivy League college education, married a smart, pretty girl, became a
U.S.Senator, and has better than even odds of becoming the next President of
the United States. Don't try to tell me we need racial, social, or economic
justice! In America, anyone can become whatever they want. The OPPORTUNITIES
are here. Is it easy? No. Is it possible? You bet!
I know nothing of your Event but it sounds to me the focus is completely
backward! Instead of having an hour of whiners, why not have an hour of
winners! Instead of pleading to government officials for new programs, why not
insist they lower our taxes, cut regulations, and get out of our way so people
can help themselves. After all it was Speaker Kelliher who just this year
orchestrated the largest tax burden increase in the state's history including a
gas tax and sales tax increase. She and her party have for 30 years forbidden
Minnesota from becoming the nation's leader in the abundant, clean energy of
nuclear power. Her "transactional relationship" has been to keep the poor
enslaved and therefore dependant on her and her party.
Of course sounds like belonging to a group called ......The Wedge......
symbolizes a lot of your transactionals.

Your language, specifically "mixed breed" is racist and offensive. It has
no place in the public discussion.

Needless to say, there's a lot of anger here that is being directed in
a very inflammatory, non-productive direction.
Hopefully those many of us who are coming to a very different
conclusion than Dean will rise above this baiting and let defeated-
feeling conservatives grieve productively in peace, rather than
playing that out through injudicious provocation in the public arena.
We progressives have before us now a great model of how to play it
cool in the face of scurrilous attacks. May we learn from it.
