Ramsey County Judge Dale Lindman ruled that Al Franken's campaign can
gain access to information on voters whose ballots were rejected. This
morning Lindman heard nearly an hour of arguments over the issue, and
this afternoon he ordered Ramsey County election officials to hand
over the data by the close of business Wednesday.

The high-energy call and response summed up the evening's lesson for
about 15 black parents with teenage children. / What do we do?" /
"Model and Teach!" / Dr. BraVada Garrett-Akinsanya, a psychologist,
started what she calls a parent boot camp after working with a number
of black families whose children were traumatized by seeing violence
in school and the community. It's called Project Murua, which is
Swahili for respect.

Many Americans were thrilled with the results of the recent election.
Others were disappointed. But, regardless of how one felt about the
outcome, the campaign process was ugly - not something that any
American can be proud of.
Jordan Area Community Council wrestles with internal disputes

by Ryan T. Scott, Insight News
The Jordan Area Community Council (JACC) recently sought the help of
Hennepin County courts to resolve an internal dispute. On the surface,
the issues result from the exceptional diversity of successful,
talented, and intelligent people that compose the council membership
and the board. At the core, the issues are indicative of the many
problems brought about by the nation's foreclosure crisis, and the
fervent desire to provide assistance to residents so that the
community maintains its talented and diverse roots.

Roger Ebert, the critic who inspired me to become a critic, argues
that entertainments should be judged not on their objective merits but
by how well they deliver on what they promise to do. If a thriller
makes you laugh and cry as well as jump, that's gravy—but really, it's
not fair to expect it to do anything more than make you jump. By that
standard, Quickies 2008: Human Curiosities, a theatrical presentation
currently playing at the Bryant-Lake Bowl, is an unqualified success.
If you just need something quick and curious, then by all means, go.

The yellow back of the light rail barely shined over the top of the
makeshift iron wall in the decaying courtyard, strewn with broken

not-so-good) thing?

by Brian Devore, 11/14/08 • Farmer Mike Gilles has a succinct way of
describing what a mess the 2008 Minnesota Legislature made of the
popular Green Acres program: "Pretty much it's a slap in the face to
anyone who is conservation-minded." It's a slap that could leave
bruises on the state's landscape for decades to come.
