"'This is a tax that is not on foreigners. This is a tax on our own people,'
Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., complained at a recent congressional briefing. 'This
is a tax unilaterally imposed by the executive branch.'"
Yes, it is - and it hits exactly where many voters think it should - the
owners' pocketbook: "...the company has had to absorb most of the extra cost
itself. 'It comes out of our bottom line,' Digre says. 'And that's the money
that we need to be reinvesting in new technology, in new products β all of the
things that makes your business competitive in a global economy.'"
Are these sole-sourced from Asia? It would be nice if the journalist included
some more information.
In 2018 Digre was interviewed: "...DIGRE: In the past year, MISCO has continued
to focus on expanding capability to meet the market needs for high quality and
often unique loudspeakers and audio systems. Late in 2016, we purchased Oaktron
from Mitek in order to strengthen our position in aerospace and military.
During the coming 12 months, we will further reinvest in our domestic
production capabilities developing high-end OEM home and pro-audio loudspeaker
components. These premium products will be produced exclusively in our
Minneapolis factory." (https://tinyurl.com/sf7h5b3)
Unless this is some advanced technology that we cannot duplicate, why not
invest in domestic production?
