Thanks to Abigail Rose pointing out that she will be working at the Black Boy
pub (91 Old High St, Headington)that evening, why don't we meet there @ 19:00
for an informal neighbourhood forums meet and greet.
This will be a great chance to put faces to the e-mails of participants and for
me to get to know the neighbourhood passions across Oxford.
As a reminder, you may RSVP for our events on Oct. 2 from here:

The morning intro training will be of most interest for those looking to build
participation in their local forum.
Cheers,

Since we are all meeting at the Blaclk Boy pub. What about us all making a donation to the Help for Heroes fund, that is trying to raise money to help improve facilities and services at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court and the NHS Hospital, Selly Oak. see http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/index.html

Perhaps you could enlighten at least me, and maybe others on the forum as to what the connection is that makes it especially appropriate for us meeting at the Black Boy to support this particular charity?
I look forward to meeting many of you on Wednesday evening.
A couple quick questions - can anyone recommend a B and B in the area? How does
one get to the pub from the central rail station (assuming that is the best one
to get off from a train from Paddington).
Thanks,
Steven Clift

P.S. If someone could bring their digital camera, we can put a few pictures on
the forum and our blog.
1. For info on getting to Headington from London read page – scroll down to bottom of page for relevant info to reach Headington and Oxford by express bus, taxi or train http://www.oxfordprospect.co.uk/GettingtoOxford.htm 2. For a suggested place to stay in Headington try http://www.allseasonsguesthouse.com/ 3. For why we should support Help for Heroes fund. It also has the support of many MPs, RFU and newspapers like the Daily Telegraph. I should have thought reading the site concerned would have given you sufficient reasons to support such an issue. But also because there are locals in the armed forces who deserve our support. Also read http://www.oxfordprospect.co.uk/Afghanistan.htm .
Or, Steve, even simpler than 1 below: get a bus. Cheaper and more frequent
than trains, they go direct to Headington. Go from Victoria or Marble Arch.
Two companies: Oxford Tube (red coaches), Oxford Bus Company (green
coaches).
And so that you can recognise the Oxford Bus Company's coach, it's actually called the Oxford Espress X90 and is a single decker. The red Oxford Tube is a double decker. It's easier to pick them up at Marble Arch because the two bus stops are next to one another so you can get the first that comes along. Both companies have websites that will show you where to get on and off, though. ----- Original Message ----- From: David Rundle To: Headington & Marston Neighbourhood Forum Sent: Monday, September 29, 2008 9:50 AM Subject: Re: [HMNF] Oct. 1 Forum Pub Gathering with E-Democracy - 19:00 Or, Steve, even simpler than 1 below: get a bus. David - but necessarily sufficient! Anyway just in case the All Seasons Guest House is full. Here is a list of alternative suggestions http://www.oxfordprospect.co.uk/OxfordClassiified.htm#Bed_and_Breakfast
I direct people who ask the question about B&Bs to the well-presented listing at: http://www.headington.org.uk/wheretostay/index.htm

I prefer function over from.
Just a quick reminder about the pub gathering this evening at the Black Boy in Headington from 7:00 p.m. on. They just re-opened yesterday, so the kitchen is not yet open. Also, we certainly welcome any last minute attendees tomorrow at any or all of the sessions: http://pages.e-democracy.org/Oxford_meeting If you are interested in building up forum membership or starting a neighbourhood Issues Forum in an area not currently covered in Oxford, the first session at 9:30 a.m. sharp is for you! It was good to meet people at the Black Boy gathering last night. I reckon there were 18 people in all (including forum member Abi, who was there already, of course, and Steven of e-Democracy). Poor Steven looked very tired when the last part of our group left at about 10.45pm. Don't forget there are special e-Democracy sessions at the Town Hall today, to which you are all welcome: http://pages.e-democracy.org/Oxford_meeting
