Hi Anne,
Apologies on the delayed update. Here are a few key progress updates:
*Schedule and Site Work:*
We are working diligently toward a certificate of occupancy date of July 13
th. This will allow the Hiawatha Collegiate High School team to begin
moving school materials (desks/chairs/etc.) into the building in Mid-late
July. There will be some remaining exterior activity that will likely
continue through July 27th. We will be finishing the soccer field and the
greenway access point/sidewalk as the last project items. We just finished
the installation of the underground storm water retention & reuse system
that was coordinated with the MWMO. We’re excited for this sustainable
approach to irrigation and watershed management. It was quite an
undertaking as you have probably gathered, given the amount of earthwork
that has taken place.
See the attached approved site plan for the Greenway connection. As a
reminder, we were able to clean up the curb access points, provide a wider
path for safe bike traffic on the school side of the street, and have been
able to coordinate improved signage to notify drivers of
pedestrians/cyclists. This includes a plan to add crosswalks at both 35th
and at 36th. I’m still working on an exact schedule with the city but they
have indicated early August install.
Our teachers return the week of 7/30, we have a few family orientation
nights the week of 8/6, and school starts on 8/16!
As we get closer to the school year, I’ll want to get you reconnected with
our high school Principal, Nicole Cooley. Nicole attended a few of the
community meetings and can be the best immediate school contact. Nicole is
out of the office right now but when she returns, I’ll make sure to send an
email reconnecting the two of you.
If there are any other questions or concerns that have come up, please let
me know.
Thanks,
Sean
