if you don't already know about it....
....incidentally, we get a report back on residents parking
tomorrow(Sustainable Development and transport scrutiny commission) - we have
a written report which suggests some areas are in favour, but gives no detail -
no idea if more detail will be forthcoming at the meeting

Hi Charlie
Just thought I'd point out that it could be construed that by linking these
two items in your email you may be hoping to make a subliminal suggestion
that approving an RPS would somehow solve the problems dealt with in the
blog, such as people parking on pavements in narrow streets to avoid getting
their wing mirrors knocked off (most likely the residents themselves
parking this way of course and RPS would not make streets any wider), or
people blocking driveways, stopping on double yellow lines, zigzag lines,
no-stopping zones etc (which is already illegal and would still be illegal
with an RPS so if they are willing to break the law now, why not then?)
Of course I'm sure you're not intentionally doing that.
All the best
MD

Hi,
Slowman is right that the issue of enforcing existing laws on parking
(double yellows, corner parking, obstruction of pavements and emergency
vehicles etc) is separate from any scheme of residents' parking. However,
although not connected logically, they may be connected historically.
Until know, BCC (with the tacit support of some residents) has generally
ignored both unlawful parking and the rising tide of commuter parking.
Assuming that BCC now intend to 'do something' (again with the support of
some residents), it is likely that they will move on both fronts. We may
soon know. Cheers, Ben.

I notice that the development on Cumberland Road is coming on and plans have
been made for the type and size of development. I do wonder therefore how the
discussion and public consultation of the transport plans related to this has
only just started? If all public transport options are declined does that mean
that the development would be left with the car as the only option. The
thinking doesn't seem to be very joined up or am I missing something?

Wow, way-to-go that man! What GREAT blogs (especially the Southville one) - a
heartfelt well done and keep up the good work!
I just wish it would result in some ACTION from someone in authority.

My sentiments exactly! Wish I had the energy/ability to do something like that
instead of just moaning about it all the time. Well done Slowman. It sounds
like the local police may well make obstructive parking a priority to deal with
after the next PACT meeting and I've asked that they try to put some pressure
on parking services to work with them to tackle the problem. It would also be
great if local businesses could be persuaded to get on board and encourage
their suppliers to park responsibly when delivering. Designated delivery bays
(not to be used for parking) may help - if parking restrictions were enforced,
that is. Retailers need to be able to see that the benefits of safer retail
streets for pedestrians outweigh unrestricted parking for 'drive-by' customers.
