happened to, and if nothing else I'll justify it as a complaint about CCTV..
:-)
Two weeks ago whilst cycling to work, I was knocked off by a hit & run
driver in a dark blue Mk4 VW Golf. This occured at about 8:30AM the bottom
of Headington Hill, after the traffic lights for Morell Avenue; he pulled in
from the right-hand lane all the way in front of me to turn into Rectory
Road - I had no time to stop, bounced off the rear quarterlight and am now
recovering from a hip fracture being held together with 3 screws.
We know from one of the other witnesses that the car had come from John
Garne Way - because someone else had *already* had an altercation with the
driver about his poor standard of driving (!). He is likely to be a student
(given the location and age), the person that saw him described him as
unusually difficult to distinguish as to race/nationality.
Sadly I only saw the first part of the registration as LV51 (and even that
is questionable). For all the CCTV in place in on Cowley Road (which is
likely the route away) and other locations - it's able to see the car, but
it's apparently of no use at seeing a number plate.
So, if you're one of the people who stopped that day, I'd just like to thank
you for picking me up & dusting me down; if you on the offchance happen to
know who might be the driver of the vehicle, the Police would like to hear
from you. Hopefully there won't be a next time, but if I get back on a bike
I'm investing in a helmet camera - as it turns out even expensively deployed
CCTV is of little practical use in my case.
