be hosting 5 public hearings in preparation for the State's redistricting
process as follows:
March 28, 2011
Noon
Room C600
Bilandic Building
160 N. Lasalle Street
Chicago, IL
The specific times and sites for the following hearings will be made available
as hearing dates approach.
April 6, 2011 in Springfield
April 16, 2011 in Kankakee
April 16, 2011 in Peoria
April 19, 2011 in Cicero
If you live in Illinois, please, make it your business to attend one of the
Illinois Senate's public hearings on the redistricting process. It would be a
great idea to have written remarks for each of the 16 Committee members. A copy
of your written testimony will be posted on the Senate Redistricting Committee
website http://www.ilsenateredistricting.com within a few days of the public
hearing.
Please find attached guidelines for preparing public testimony as well as a
list of resources that you can use to help prepare. If you plan on testifying,
please contact Mr. Ron Holmes at 217-782-0571 or <email obscured>.

The Lawndale Alliance is working with State Representative Arthur Turner, Jr.
and a coalition consisting of the Illinois Campaign for Accountable
Redistricting, Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization
(IVI-IPO) Empowered Citizens of North Lawndale (ECONL), and the North Lawndale
Community News to sponsor outreach and education around the State of Illinois
redistricting process, currently underway. We will offer a series of three
2-hour workshops each Wednesday, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on April 20, April
27 and May 4th. The location will be confirmed within the next week.
The workshops will provide insights into the relationships between the Census
and the redistricting process; the redistricting process and calendar; the
parameters within which redistricting must occur; an overview of current
legislative maps and proposed changes; the impact of the redistricting process
upon local communities, and how citizens may get involved at the grassroots
level. This will include Congressional districts, and State legislative
districts that impact the West Side of Chicago. If possible, we would like to
share insights regarding impacts of redistricting at the County, City and
School District levels as well.
We envision working with you, elected officials, as well as local community
groups, and other stakeholders to ensure that Illinois' legislative boundaries
are drawn in a manner that is equitable for all stakeholders.
