To M A Richards - I have never said noise levels are acceptable at Ruapuna
and find it very annoying that a comment like this is written anywhere. My
view is quite the opposite and very recently have worked very hard to
achieve a ban on boy racers in the Templeton area. I am continuing to work
with the Car Club to find and deliver measures to reduce noise from the car
racing activities.

To Bob Shearing
With respect, you need to understand that the boy racer problem and the
unacceptable noise emanating from the Ruapuna Complex are TWO SEPARATE ISSUES!
While I do not doubt that you worked hard to achieve the ban on Boy Racer
activities ( along with the tremendous support we had from the Police ) by
erecting No Entry signs I ask you to please tell me and everyone else on this
forum what you intend to do and what is being done to help Templeton and
surrounding areas regarding the huge ongoing and growing problem we have out
here with the noise pollution from Ruapuna.
You may well be "working behind the scenes" but some public support and regular
feedback from you as a Councillor and Community Board member would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank you
Hi Templeton residents and Ruapuna motorsport participants.
I could not believe my eyes when I read the paper about the CCC considering
buying properties bordering Ruapuna raceway.
If the CCC has the cash for such a ridiculous scheme why can it not come up
with a few bob - not the full amount - to build an earthen embankment around
the track?
Why has no one from the Council even mentioned an earthen embankment?
Why does the CCC worry more about potential airport noise than the real noise
from Ruapuna?
If the CCC does consider buying adjacent properties - would property owners be
able to sell on an open market - with a zone change? For example, could those
right on the Ruapuna boundary be able to sell their property to someone keen to
set up a hot-dog outlet or garage or whatever they need to associate with motor
sport?
I can see potential opportunities - buggered up by CCC bureaucratic
interference!
Tim Kerr.
I am happy to see that you Bob Shearing
that you voted for us ordinary people,
and we will not forget it.
Overheard in a conversation this morning that perhaps one of the properties
affected by the proximity to Ruapuna noise could be (somehow) gifted to the
poor chap who was incarcerated for a couple of years for not raping someone.
When we come to understand that the legacy of police in disrepute (and their
own dissatisfaction with what they do) has a correlate function in youth
alienation from rule of law - leading as it does to the kind of outcomes we see
in 'loud' Ruapuna, Boy-Racers etc. we will never find the halfway house we are
all looking for.
The 'legislative response' approach has been to tackle 'exhaust noise'.
However, an observer with ears will 'note' that the contribution to the
annoying and sometime startling sound levels from 'waste gate' whistle and air
intakes makes the back end focus of politico's quite anal.
The required 'OpenStrategy** resolution procedures' to complex problems
(usefully introduced by Brian Jenkins/ECAN/Water Mgmt ) is constrained at this
very nexus. Alienation creates non-participation in the solution as evidenced
by the low and decreasing 'vote' by youth, the very inheritors of process
outcomes. The challenge remains to ensure ALL stakeholders participate in
resolving the tensions.
Have a great weekend folks....
Hi there all,
I am sorry but i am a little confused. My wife and I brought a house in
Rolleston about a year and a half ago, we are within earshot of the train and
also the volunteer fire siren, these were all in place before we purchased our
property.
We could well complain about the noise and get all up in arms but at the end of
the day the sources of the noise were there before we brought our house and
moved in and at the end of the day you get used to the noise so it doesn't
really bother us that much.
I am certain that Ruapuna would have been around in the area well before most
of the housing, come on people if you made the decision to move there then you
must accept the noise levels that go with living next to a racetrack, besides i
am sure that its not at 3am in the morning that they hold motorsport events.
Christchurch would benefit much more from a world class motorsport facility
that could host an anual v8 touring car race, an anual f1 race as well as super
bikes etc, the money brought into the city from such events would far outweigh
that brought in by an entire rugby season and yet look at the money being put
into our rugby stadiums around the country when it is constantly being reported
that turnout to such events is at an all time low.
Christchurch should perhaps consider other options apart from Rugby, We rarely
get the big concerts coming to Christchurch because of the lack of decent
facilities and accommodation that the top performers are accustomed to using.
I guess what i am trying to say is this,
1. If you moved into a house near Ruapuna perhaps you should have taken its
noise into consideration first.
2. Christchurch has the potential to really increase its tourist appeal through
other means with the appropriate facilities.
Kind regards,
Ike Andoit :o)
