Several folks have expressed interest in a bike ride of Roseville. I think it
is an interesting way of learning about the infrastructure that Roseville has
provided for cyclists and to see some of the interesting sites that have been
talked about.
One idea was that we could visit a few spots and then end at a community
meeting place. Does Roseville have a popular gathering location? A favorite
local park? A neighborhood restaurant? The library? Someone posted about the
local American Legion celebrating clean air so that could be a possibility.
Is City Hall open on Saturday? We could start there and talk with our local
community leaders. Perhaps they may even join our ride. :) Next we could see
the infamous Roseville donkey. Other suggestions were to see the Twin Lakes
Development area, the lot that caused the Lot split debate, or some of the
heritage homes in the area. Do you have any suggestions?
The more suggestions, the more rides that can be planned. :)
I think this would be a really FUN opportunity for a very casual event... I don't think that it should be "geared" as too serious of a bike ride, just using a bike for a leisure tour of Roseville. It would be really fun to have a nice evening ride that maybe starts and ends at a convenient Roseville watering hole where one might be able to have a post-event refreshing beverage, maybe a bite to eat? In the absence of any idea for a "local" bar/restaurant (topic for new discussion?), how about the Chili's that is on the corner of Fairview and County Road B2? There's ample parking, and this location might be a good one to demonstrate both the good and bad of infrastructure? Maybe we could make this the first of many group rides? How's this for a route?* *http://www.routeslip.com/routes/41453 I will get out and scout the section of road along Rice street to see if there is a good way around Lake McCarrons and back to Dale. If there isn't a great route, we could omit that little section of the loop and simply head North on Dale from Reservoir Woods. We could throw in the "Donkey Spur" at the intersection of Lexington and County Road C if people would be interested in heading up and around City Hall? The other optional section would be West of 35W to Walnut to Terminal road... That little section would be a very interesting CONTRAST to the rest of the route. Total route is less than 15 miles. With a very casual pace of "no one gets left behind," casual conversation, and some stopping here and there... plan on something like a 2 hour tour? Meet at 6pm, done by 8... Beverages after 8? Might I go so far as to suggest Wednesday, June 20th, 6pm?... In terms of an actual organized Roseville bike ride, there is the 7th Annual Tour De Roses on Sunday June 24th at 9am. Maybe some of us could plan on attending this? http://www.ci.roseville.mn.us/parks/view_event.php?pid=213
