Hi folks,
Catherine and I just released CLIFF v1.0. This is the tool we've built to
figure out the "who" and "where" of online news. You send CLIFF some text,
and it returns JSON with info about the people, places, and organizations
mentioned.
Try it out here: http://cliff.mediameter.org/
Or see the source code here: https://github.com/c4fcm/CLIFF
The key contributions of our tool are:
1) a set of strategies for location disambiguation tailored to news articles
2) a sense of "aboutness" to guess which place an article is really about,
rather than all the places mentioned
Hope some of you find this useful. We'll be building it into our
MediaMeter suite of tools for more high-level media analysis.
Peace,
Rahul
