November 10th , 7:00 PM at Matthews
Regarding updates: I have been in touch with Mike Rumppe and he has seen the
list of properties. On Friday, he emailed asking if he could have some more
time to really review them and assured me that he would get back early this
week. Since most of the other news is about internal meetings and the upcoming
Nov. 10th meeting, I was hoping to send out an update after hearing back from
Mike but will go ahead and bring everyone up to speed on the limited progress
anyway. Hopefully I will have some more soon.
What I know:
Mike Rumppe:
-Has received the list of properties effected by recent events.
-When I asked what I can report back, he said (paraphrased), that there's
nothing he can't reverse regarding inspections. (I wish I knew if that meant
to not spend any more money or time until Nov. 10th. Personally, since I've
already addressed the few debatable life-safety items on my list, I will not
spend any more of my children's college fund or liquidate anymore Roth IRAs
until then.)
-Mike has been following the e-democracy/seward/Jarvis thread
-Mike's "boss" from Minneapolis Regulatory Services is now planning on
attending the Nov. 10th meeting as well as city council.
Cam Gordon:
-Was active early on and I can only assume that we have him to thank for much
of the progress to date (He forwarded me to Mike Rumppe initially) I haven't
heard much since then, but I suspect everyone is waiting for Nov. 10th to know
how to procede. I wish I had a better response for all who have inspections
before then...including myself. I guess I was hoping to brief him before then,
but there's still little bit of time......
Abdi Warsame (6th Ward):
-I've had several email exchanges with Marcela Sotela from Abdi's office.
Though she, like everyone else, has not offered any immediate relief, she's
also been more proactive in informing me of what they are doing in preparation,
i.e. internal meeting regarding the matter, scheduled to attend the SNG/CDC
meeting, who will be there etc. So at least they seem "on top" of what's
coming up.
I wish I had more substance to report, but Nov. 10th isn't far away. That said,
none of our council reps have invited me (or anyone else for that matter?) to a
meeting yet. Not sure how they're able to understand the scale and consequences
of what's going on. Let's hope they're talking to someone besides us and
e-democracy? Chris' post does a pretty good job of outlining the situation. I
just wish we could expedite this a bit.
Since several people have asked, personally, my wife and I are living off
savings in order to launch an online Public Benefit Corporation designed to
promote and preserve community-based learning. We hoped (needed) to have a
roll-out 2 months ago. Until this spring, we were right on schedule. I won't
even mention the reduced development budget. It hurts.
Has anyone besides me counted the for-sale signs on 26th Ave recently? Maybe
it's just a coincidence, but as much as I love Seward and dream of passing on a
beautifully restored brick Victorian to my son or daughter someday, I'll admit
this experience sure has made me think too.
Thanks again to everyone who has sent me their addresses and thanks in-advance
to all who plan on showing up Nov. 10th.
