Some of our neighbors left town for the weekend. Have you considered taking
you and dogs away for the holiday? Seems easier than battling the whole
neighborhood each year.

We were dog-sitting our son's black lab cross this weekend, up at our normally
bucolic and quiet 40 acres of woods and meadow in Wisconsin. A couple of the
neighbors maybe a quarter-mile or more away set off some fireworks after dark.
Nothing obnoxious, but Guinness was pacing and noticeably not his normal mellow
self. So I guess it boils down to what you are used to. I have found that a
window fan typically screens out much of the racket when we're home in Mpls for
the 4th. It would be helpful if the cops would crack down after a certain
hour, like 11, but that's probably a a thankless and losing cause.
