FIRST EARTH CHARTER SUMMIT IN AMHERST
"The first Earth Charter Summit in Amherst, Massachusetts will be held
October 14, 2006 at Hampshire College, from 10 AM to 5 PM, in Franklin
Patterson Hall. The Earth Charter is an international people's (not
governments, UN or
organizations) agreement for a compassionate, just and sustainable world that
is the product of collaboration by thousands of individuals from 78 countries
over the course of 12 years and was launched at the Hague Peace Palace in
June 2000. It has the core value of interdependence and calls for economic
and social justice, peace, democracy and ecological integrity. Every year
since its release, on the second Saturday in October, groups all around the
world host Earth Charter Summits, which are aimed at promoting the principles
set forth in The Earth Charter and determining how they can be implemented at
the personal, community, and institutional levels. This first Summit at
Hampshire will be a day of discussion, presentations, speakers, and
workshops, on a variety of topics -- all in the spirit of sustainability. Come
take part in the making of history! For more information, please contact

"An Inconvenient Truth" will be screened at St James' Church, 8 Church St.,
Greenfield on Tuesday, October 24 at 7pm, and at Trinity Church, Main St,
Shelburne Falls, Thursday October 26 at 7pm.
Even if you have already seen it you are encouraged to attend one of these
screenings. While watching the film is an important first step to raising
awareness, the film compels us all to find ways to collectively address the
question, What can we do about it? Everyone is invited to join in a group
discussion immediately following the screening as the next step towards
responding to this momentous question with hope and creative thinking.

A new NESEA chapter is forming serving Western Massachusetts, Northern Connecticut and beyond! DATE: Tuesday January 23rd, from 7PM to 9PM LOCATION: Springfield Technical Community College, 1 Armory Square, Building 17, room 515. DIRECTIONS: http://www.stcc.edu/overview/directions.html. MORE INFO: call Chairman Mike Kocsmiersky at 413 734-1456. In todays world we are faced with rising energy costs, irrevocable environmental damage, and a deprivation of personal freedoms, all derived from a way of life that revolves around cheap fossil fuels and reckless abandon towards the environment. It is time that we as individuals take personal responsibility for our own contribution to the present state of energy affairs, and change our habits to a sustainable lifestyle. The meeting is monthly and free for all. Every other month will feature guest speakers discussing energy conservation, renewable energy generation, environmentally friendly transportation, civic planning, and many other topics with the theme of reducing our dependency of fossil fuels and improving the environment. Come be a part of the excitement by participating in the formation of this new chapter of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association.
