Last week's meeting brought good discussion once again on several topics
including ESNDC's renewed commitment to Railroad Island and Merrick's plans
for the new community center. Minutes will be distributed once they are
completed. Leslie, thank you for taking the minutes.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 13 from 6:00-7:30 p.m..
We will return to regularly scheduled meetings on the 4th Thursday of each
month on January 24.
If you haven't made it to a meeting in awhile, please consider joining us on
12/13 to re-connect with your neighbors and help make positive changes to
our community.
In addition to bringing yourselves, please bring (or call/email me in
advance) a list of problem properties in Railroad Island. Make lists for
each of the below categories (list them in priority order):
1. Distressed properties (rental or owner-occupied) that need significant
attention (List top 3-5)
2. Distressed VACANT properties--please note whether you believe the
property should be demolished or rehabilitated (List top 3-5)
The RRITF will review all submissions and select the top 10 from each
category. We will focus on these lists and work with City personnel to
provide you a status of the properties and address issues. Ask your neighbor
to submit their LISTS also. We want everyone's input!
Another theme that has come up many times in Task Force meetings is issues
related to neighborhood youth and crime. To kick off this community
conversation on making Railroad Island a safe and healthy place for youth
and families, Saint Paul/Ramsey County Public Health is hosting a FREE
upcoming training/discussion on Wednesday, November 14th from 6-8 p.m. at
Water & Oil Gallery. See attached flier for details. This is a great
opportunity to learn new skills on building community.
Please join us!
