increase in 0-2 hour parking charges in the Waitrose car park.
A few years ago I challenged the council about the already inflated parking
charges in St Leonards Rd and Waitrose, in particular the fact that the
shortest period is 0-2 hours.
I can easily walk in from where I live and usually do but if I want to buy more
items or am nipping in to grab something then I need to park.
I asked the Council previously why there was not a free 30 mins or cheaper 0-1
hour slot as well as why the 2 hour slot is so expensive and had a very
unsatisfactory answer.
Surely lower parking prices encourage people to use the local community
facilities rather than going to out of town supermarkets? The council appeared
to believe that charging for a longer slot persuaded people to stay for longer
which I cannot believe is true and certainly is not from my own experience.
If we want Headington be an accessible area for families as well as older
people then we need to make it easier for them to visit and support our smaller
shops, the Library and park.
