information during my visit. The City of Minneapolis is down to one auditor. I
guess we should be thankful to have one at all, because for a long time we had
none. The second auditor, who showed great promise, has left for a better job.
Maybe she didn't like trying to catch up after a long period of no auditing
activity. Other cities of comparable size have eight auditors.
Whatever the reason is I find it appalling and rather suspicious that this city
is not providing the means of financial oversight of itself. It isn't as if we
don't have the money for these highly essential employees. Just recently the
auditors did excellent work in providing the Minneapolis Police Department with
a different perspective on the use of body cameras that cast some doubt on
their implementation. We need this vital information to run an honest and
progressive city.
If anyone is interested in contacting City Council members about this, the
Audit Committee consists of Lisa Palmisano (chair), Alondra Cano and John
Quincy. They meet monthly, Wednesdays at 9:30 am in the second week of the
Council cycle.
