agenda that reminds me how hard Rep. Phyllis Kahn had to fight to get
things like this for Minneapolis and near suburbs, in the face of fierce
and sometimes ugly opposition from the hunting-and-fishing outstate lobby
(and their Star Tribune advocate). That lobby did not want the city to have
Legacy Fund/Lessard money to sustain and enhance our green spaces. Phyllis
held the line MUCH harder than the University of Minnesota football team
and their Saturday Big Ten opponent did (the score looked more like a
basketball score; no defense at all on either side).
Here's the agenda item that struck me:
"--Accepting a Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Fund Grant from the State of
Minnesota in the Amount of $600,000 for Vegetation Enhancements at Theodore
Wirth Regional Park."
Thanks, Phyllis!
