I called 911 and they said there are squads on the way over here.

No, gunshots, and I'm relatively close. Did hear 5 or 6 a couple nights ago.
Lots of activity the last month. I had the whole 3rd precinct and all their
dogs in my yard capturing a suspect, then they had to search for his gun until
4am. I used to call the first couple years we lived here - but they have those
triangulation things that tell them when there is possible gunfire, and they
generally have been coming in without sirens.

Yep, i heard them. To us
It sounded like they were coming from 34th and chicago. Strange how
ginshot sound bounces around so much..
Sent from my phone. Please excuse poor grammar, syntax, etc.

I heard them and called 911 immediately, I think I was the first one this time.
By the time she took the info calls were coming in. It sounded like 35/36th and
10th or 11th. Eight rounds or so in quick succession. I would really like to
know where they landed, because they all do.

Did anyone else hear or know anything else regarding the gunshots last night at
1:30a.m? I counted 20 shots and it sounded like it was coming from two
different firearms and that it was going back and forth between the two. My
windows were shut but it sounded like it may have been coming from the park
along 35th close to Bloomington. I was going to call the police but then I saw
their red lights heading that way so I didn't.

I heard them too; I had forgotten until I saw this. I'm at 32nd and 16th --
sorta sounded like they might have been closer to 32nd and Bloomington, but
I was half-asleep and sound bounces. I heard sirens (what seemed like very
long after the shots, but again, I was half asleep). Whatever it was, it
sounded really bad. I'd like to know, too.

I heard them as well - but they sounded like they were a short distance from my
house - they were LOUD and the echo was kind of funny. I startled my husband
awake, since he knows a lot more about shots than I do (NRA) - but by the time
he came to, it was over. I looked for lights, but didn't see anyone coming. I
thought they were closer to 37th & 13th. but certainly within blocks of both
the park and Chicago - usual area the last couple of years. I checked for
reports but I haven't seen anything.

It sounded closer to me (36th and 14th) than the last shots that we recently
heard.
They sounded a lot like firecrackers.

From what the two of you have posted, and the Shotspotter records from
earlier last month,
it looks like maybe a pattern is developing along the south side of the park
along 35th, between Chicago and Bloomington Ave, and some stuff around 11th
and 36th--has anyone noticed any increase in policing around there yet?

From Karen Notch re: the latest gun shot reports in the area:
Here's what I have for the weekend.
10/2/10 @ 1:34 am shots heard on the corner of 39th St E & 4th Ave S
Nothing found
10/2 @ 10:55 am shots heard near 46th & Columbus from cemetery
Funeral for a veteran
10/3 @ 1:29 am shots heard on the corner of 39th St & 14th Ave So
Nothing found
10/3 @ 1:55 am shots heard on the corner of E. 31st St & 18th Ave S
Nothing found
I know the above is brief but actually in all the cases except the funeral,
shotspotter was activated and 911 calls were great from residents. Although
nothing may have been found, there was some eyewitness info that cant be
released at this time. Sorry I don’t have more info.
If I hear any more info, I'll pass it along.

Four shots were fired into the air tonight about 6pm-ish in front of the
community garden on the East side of the park. I was about 30feet away but
didn't see it happen. Neighbors said it was a young teenager who fired into
the air during an argument. The crazy part is that no one really did anything
until I called the cops and got people talking. It hardly interrupted the
basketball game across the street. Peter from the Park was out with the police
when the showed up. Very scary for my son, when I came running into the house
yelling "get down". Luckily no one was hurt.

I appreciate all those who make contributions to the board here, but I think it
is confusing when a message thread that is almost a year old is revived. It
means readers have to wade through a multi-message thread to get to the new
posting. In this case the subject of gunshots in the neighborhood is the same,
but the current case doesn't have anything to do with the earlier messages in
the thread, it would seem. It would seem it would be more to the point to start
a new message thread when the previous one is so old.

For what it's worth, it _did_ appear as a new thread to those of us
who receive the posts by e-mail (there was no "in-reply-to" header
line). Maybe a problem with the logic of how e-democracy figures
threading for the website. So I don't think it can be considered to
be Kevin's fault. There is really no way to know (at least for those
of us on e-mail) whether a particular word or words have been the
subject sometime in the past.

I had just thrown out the compost at the community garden and was
walking towards 35th St when I heard two loud pops behind me. I turned
around and saw a kid on a bike in the street holding a gun. He fired
two more shots towards the park building and then stuck the gun in his
waistband and rode up towards me. I cowered behind a van as he rode
past. The people right next to me were either really shocked or really
brave, because they didn't run for cover at all. After he was gone, I
huddled next to the van for a few more seconds and hoping there would
be no return fire, ran home and called 911. That was scary.

the air during an argument. The crazy part is that no one really did anything
until I called the cops and got people talking. It hardly interrupted the
basketball game across the street. Peter from the Park was out with the police
when the showed up. Very scary for my son, when I came running into the house
yelling "get down". Luckily no one was hurt.
