Some big news from mySociety this week, as we release MapIt
Global<http://global.mapit.mysociety.org/>.
Many of you may already be familiar with our MapIt API, which matches
postcodes/locations to administrative boundaries in Britain. It lies behind
many of our websites, including WriteToThem, TheyWorkForYou, and
FixMyStreet, and we also provide it as a service to other sites who need
the same functionality.
Now, using source data from Open Streetmap, we've extended the service to
cover the whole world. It's part of mySociety's remit to make it easier to
build civic and democratic websites anywhere, in any country. Tom's

MapIt is one of a planned series of Components - slot-in functionality that
will fit into any website and cut out a lot of time-consuming work. The
plan is to build these Components collaboratively, and make it a real
