Any official vote of the Executive Committee needs to happen in our
"COMMITTEE" forum.
Here is the motion, as put forward by Charlie Swope. I believe that
Mike Fratto intended to second it. Mike can you confirm that.
Please, posts your votes here.

I would vote yes.
Though I have one hope (though my vote would still be yes without it).
The proviso is that I think the announcements list should by default
automatically subscribe all current and new SPED subscribers, and
require them to "opt out" if they wish to unsubscribe. My rationale
is that in the beginning we are essentially splitting the functions
currently performed by SPIF, and therefore I suggest all current SPIF
members be automatically subscribed to this list.
Hopefully in the long run, the announcements list will take on a life
of its own.
Likewise, I would encourage the default to be all new SPED/SPIF
members are automatically subscribed, because too many members never
make it back to our webpage to change their subscriptions.

Yes, it is planned that all SPIF registrants would be
automatically enrolled to the announcements forum with
an option to be removed if they request that.

I do vote in favor.

I think we have discussed this before, and the motion is a straightforward,
sensible approach, so I will vote for it. But let me insist once more that
the only way that the rules of order for passing a motion really make sense
is to observe the following sequence:
- one member makes a motion
- another member seconds it
- having been seconded, the motion is open to discussion, which may in
some cases last for quite a while, until brought to some sort of termination
- the membership votes on the motion
Implications:
- to second a motion is only to agree that it should be discussed. It
is not illogical to, and one is free to, second a motion and then vote
against it.
- to move directly from seconding a motion to voting on it is in
effect to deny any other member the opportunity to ask a question about it or
express an opinion about it.
I think the above should be true of electronic meetings as well as of
meeting rooms.
I vote yes

Dave:
Thanks for the reminder. You just explained this to me at the last
meeting, where it made sense - but, then in the context of the online
vote, I got confused again.
We're all still learning.
Anyway, if my count is correct, the following folks voted for the
motion:
Charlie Swope
Mike Fratto
Tim Erickson
Rosa Maria de la Cueva Peterson
Bob Spaulding
Dave Hutcheson
Gary Thomspson
Votes against:
No one
Did not vote:
Grace Kelly
Motion passes on a vote of 8 - 0
Thanks,
Tim Erickson
