Hills' experience with the City Planning Commission. Well, here we go again:
Please help your friends and neighbors by reading and signing this petition to
oppose a 70 foot hotel (with an obscene floor to area ratio) proposed for the
SE corner of Lake and Emerson.
The fact is, this 'type of project and its potential' is exactly the amenity
the area does NOT need. At least NOT IN THIS LOCATION. While a hotel in Uptown
may be a worthy goal, the scale of the project is totally inappropriate for the
size and location of the two parcels the developer is seeking to purchase. The
properties would have to be rezoned from C2 to C3A for the project to be
viable.
Rezoning is a non-starter for me. The proposed C3A zoning is TOTALLY
inconsistent with the wholesome outcomes envisioned in the Uptown Small Area
Plan that we all worked so hard to create. Additionally, this ad-hoc approach
to zoning in the face of settled policy sets a dangerous precedent and could
easily destabilize the mostly R2B residential neighborhoods along the entire
3000 Block corridor to the south of Lake Street throughout the 9th and 10 wards
- not just our little block on Emerson.
The Planning Commission will be hearing testimony at a public hearing this
afternoon at 4:30, so it's not too late to weigh in! Please?
