Gordon or CPED would know any more about this than what has come before folks
whom Vermilion has met with so far or been reported in the news (Daily and the
two business rags; I’ll link them, but you need a subscription or a trip to the
library to read two). I think they’re just gauging the NIMBY levels
(significant) and the likelihood of getting the needed zoning changes
(doubtful, since this is a major change to both the commercial and residential
property on and adjacent to this side of University Ave SE and twice the height
of anything existing now, i.e., they have to scale this way down even with a
zoning change and their numbers probably won’t work anymore then).
Of course maybe there’ll be a push from the affordable housing development
boosters at city hall and here and there in the business community. Talk about
replacing more of what’s being lost with the Glendale redevelopment and who
knows? We could start looking pretty dense and have sky scrapers on both sides
of U. Ave.
