instructive. The author (a former mayor of an upstate NY town) believed
that having authoritarian tendencies was most predictive of violence and
abusive behavior, so they employed a combination of psychological and
polygraph testing to weed them out.
I have not seen much media coverage of details of any efforts to improve
MPD's hiring process. They started employing psychological testing many
years ago but it apparently has had limited effectiveness based on
continued hiring of problem cops. Are any details about the hiring
process available? What efforts have been made to study and improve it?
This issue also brings to the forefront the mischief of Don Samuels
lawsuit to force MPD to hire more officers. The more this legal pressure
tactic is successful, the more the City will be hiring inadequately
vetted cops.
