There will be a community meeting about the proposed ordinance that will, if
passed, prohibit semi-truck and large commercial vehicle parking in
Minneapolis, including in areas like the south Seward industrial area. The
ordinance is being led by Council Members Cunningham and Jenkins, with the
support of Council Members Gordon, Schroeder, and Reich.
The meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 29th, from 6-7:30pm at
Matthews Center, 2318 29th Ave S. A flier is attached. A Facebook event is also
being created, and I will share that once it has been set up. Please help get
the word out to other interested residents and businesses who may not be
connected to the e-list.
This meeting is part of the engagement process that will occur over the next
two months. There will also be an engagement meeting with truck drivers in
early February, and a survey will be circulated there and via other means to
drivers. There will also be a public hearing on this ordinance, which is
currently tentatively scheduled for early April. I will share more information
about that once the hearing has been set.
