If you have the opportunity, please come downtown and visit Skyway businesses
in the coming week.
Let's make up for some lost revenue. I make it a habit to get to know the
entrepeneurs who run businesses
in the Skyway when I go for my lunch walk. Because of the early building
closings, telecommuting, traffic disruptions
riots and demonstrations - and fear of riots - many saw dramatically lower
sales this last week.
Our city has done a "buy local" campaign in the past. It's a principle we
should all embrace to keep small business
downtown, and try to get rid of any lingering bad taste from the last week.
So, even if you don't come downtown often, come by next week just to say hello,
thank you and to buy a sandwich.
Ditto on the buy local -- you might consider catching breakfast or lunch at the Four Inns. Their business was way down. Also based on a couple of conversations with proprietors you might consider a ramble on Grand Avenue. Finally the word was that last Saturday's Farmer's Market was bad news for the producers.
