The folks in St. Paul are wringing their hands over the "closing of the Ford
plant".
A few years ago (more than 3 and less than 10) Ford bought out a Norwegian
organization that manufactured "electric automobiles". Ford decided to close
it down as soon as they bought it. General Motors bought out another Norwegian
company that did the same thing and proceeded to close it as soon as they
bought it.
My engineer friends tell me that the "internal combustion engine" takes about
50% of the energy just to keep the engine running. The electric 'cars' use
about 15% of the energy just to keep the motor running.
I grew up before rural America was electrified. The more affluent had electric
windmills in their yard that gave them electricity.
I saw an add in a "green" paper the other day that advertised backyard electric
windmills and other energy catchers.
Now that petroleum prices have gone ballistic, maybe it is time to look at a
different way of getting around. Saint Paul / Minnesota has an opportunity.
