I stumbled across your post while searching for Sabathani Baptist Church songs
on the Internet. I was a long-time member of Sabathani. In fact, my parents are
charter members. I have several copies of Sabathani's album that was recorded
shortly after Humphrey's funeral.
The album includes the song 99 1/2. Sabathani has a rich history. Gary Hines,
founder of the Sounds of Blackness during the Sabathani era, was a music
minister and was the youth choir director for many years. The church legacy
lives on at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Greater Friendship
was actually the first name of the church before the congregation moved to the
building on 38th Street and adopted the name Sabathani. Juan Turner is a
member. Another off-shoot of
Sabathani is Macedonia Baptist Church, which has been around for about 30
years. Charles Graham is the pastor of the church...and his wife Marie Graham
is the first
lady.
I could tell you a lot more. I know your post was almost 3-years ago. Please
let me know what other information you would like...if you read this. Take
care. :-)
